Ben Hickman

Research Director

Ben is an experienced researcher with over ten years’ experience in social and political research and a strong track record in delivering research projects in the public and private sectors. He has an MSc in Geographical Science and is an expert user in Excel, SPSS and .net programming.

An expert in local government, workforce and quantitative methods, he has been a member of advisory data panels for the Department of Health, Department for Education and the Office for National Statistics.

Ben has designed and managed both qualitative and quantitative research projects, including financial projections, administrative data collections, perception surveys and the development of data standards. He recently left the Local Government Association to found Myriad Research, and now works as Research Director.

Genevieve McMahon

Research Associate

Genevieve is an experienced researcher skilled in the application of both quantitative and qualitative research methodology. She currently also teaches Psychology and Statistics at a Grammar School in Kent, facilitating their implementation of the International Baccalaureate examination system. She has an MSc in Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods, and is an advanced user in Excel and SPSS.

Gen’s recent work has included a review within Her Majesty’s resettlement prisons across Kent and Sussex to identify improvements to work-skills training which links with real employers to increase offender employment and a governance review for a children’s charity.


Dr Mary Baginsky

Research Associate

Mary is an experienced social research and evaluation professional with significant experience in academic, public, voluntary and independent and private sectors and has published very widely. She has worked in and with government departments and agencies in the United Kingdom and overseas, local authorities and partnerships, higher education institutions, charities and service providers.

Most recently Dr Baginsky has worked as Professional Adviser on Research and Evaluation at Department for Education, Head of Research at Children’s Workforce Development Council and Senior Research Officer at NSPCC. Mary Baginsky is 2013 Churchill Fellow, Visiting Senior Research Fellow in the King’s Policy Institute – Social Care Workforce Research Unit, and National Foundation for Educational Research Associate. Mary is currently director of her own research consultancy – Quest Research and Evaluation.


Amy Sutton

Research Associate

Amy is a social researcher with thirteen years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector. She has worked in research roles at UnLtd, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs, since 2007, including as Research Manager where she oversaw the monitoring and evaluation of a wide range of programmes supporting social entrepreneurs. Amy has expertise in designing and delivering mixed-method evaluations and is especially interested in participatory, qualitative research methods and analysis. She has experience in using qualitative analysis software, such as Nvivo and Atlas ti. She values monitoring and evaluation not only for its purpose in exploring and evidencing outcomes but also for drawing out learning that informs ongoing delivery and organisational processes.

Amy has conducted research with a wide range of people, including young people, refugees and asylum seekers, internal staff and external partner organisations (from universities to community associations). She has worked extensively with vulnerable and hard to reach groups in her wider work experience and for her MA dissertation. Amy has an MA (merit) in Human Rights from the University of London.
